California Ethics for the Financial Services Practitioner examines the nature and scope of ethics, as the foundation of integrity and honesty, and its relationship to compliance in the life insurance practice. In addition to an examination of ethics in the insurance practice, the course includes a general overview of the requirements imposed on California insurers in combating insurance fraud, the detection of insurance fraud, its referral to and cooperation with law enforcement, and the red flags that may indicate possible insurance fraud.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Recognize the nature of ethics and identify those parties to whom the practitioner owes an ethical duty;
- Describe the need for professionalism in the practice of insurance;
- Discuss the sources of duty practitioners owe insurers;
- Understand the common ethical issues that arise between financial services practitioners and customers;
- Identify the red flags that may indicate possible insurance fraud; and
- Describe the California anti-insurance fraud requirements imposed on insurers and their agents and brokers.
